She is a comprehensively certified pilates teacher with over 650 hours of pilates-specific training.

Sonja maintains certifications to work with back injuries, scoliosis, chronic pain issues, injury rehabilitation, pre and postnatal populations including diastasis repair, and those with osteoporosis/osteopenia.  She has additional studies in gait training and myofascial imbalance assessment and correction. Her continuing education includes courses such as The Female Pelvis and the Cycles of Life, Anatomy Trains in Structure and Function, Fascia as an Emotional and Sensory Organ, and Anatomy Trains for Movement Professionals through Tom Myers' KMI institute.  Her background includes a BFA in Dance (Technique and Performance) and a BA in Dance Kinesiology through the University of Massachusetts Amherst Commonwealth Honors College.  She continued her conservatory dance training in the professional division of the Ailey School and completed her first pilates certification through Erika Bloom Pilates Plus in Manhattan.  Sonja has been honored to train with Tom Myers, Dr. Robert Schleip, Erika Bloom, Doris Pasteur Hall, Leslie Powell, Kuan Hui Chew, Rebekeh Rotstein, Thomas Vacanti, Paul Dennis, and Peter Brandenhoff.  She has traveled internationally to work with high-profile clients and to lead workshops and certifications.

Sonja experienced a number of injuries due to the rigors and demands of conservatory dance training. This included a low back injury in 2014 that changed her relationship with movement and her body. During this time it was her pilates training that helped her better understand her injury and learn to move again without pain. Her experience with injury and movement rehabilitation is ultimately why she opened The Pilates Lab. She is passionate about helping individuals discover the potential for healing and empowerment through their own highly personalized pilates practice. Her specialization in therapeutic, one-on-one pilates will leave you feeling empowered, centered, and rejuvenated.

It is an absolute dream for Sonja to bring her modern, welcoming studio to the Boston wellness community.

She is honored to share her method with The Pilates Lab clientele.
